Why go out to eat fast food when I can prepare faster, better and cheaper food?

For lunch today I thought about going out to eat. I was thinking about the fast food places in my town and decided no. I'm going to stay here and make something even better and cheaper.

My normal combo order at one of my favorite fast food places, runs me about $10-$15... Let's see if I can come under that price point on a great adventure making some gourmet hamburger.

Using the leftover bread I made, last night, for some bruschetta toppings, a pound of hamburger and a small package of cheap bacon.

Sure, I could have made four reasonably sized hamburgers, but I decided on two.

First things first, fry the bacon. Pour the excess grease into a can and save it for later if it's still clean. Since my buns are an odd shape, I portion the meat in almost half but not quite. One definitely larger than the other to fit the buns. After searing all four sides of the hamburger I smashed them. sprinkling a little salt and black pepper on both sides, after flipping it 4 minutes later my entire home smelled amazing. I sliced the leftover bread, started loading it up with toppings and place the patties on top. One burger with a combination of shaved Parmesan, romano and asiago cheese with an artichoke bruschetta spread and dip my sister sent to me. The other with two cheese snacks, I believe colby jack, and a little bit of mayonnaise and mustard. Both, topped with crispy bacon! Definitely better than any fast food hamburger I've ever had.

Now, let's talk about cost worth ratio. A pound of hamburger varies in price pretty dramatically, but let's just say it cost $8 a pound. Very high-end hamburger! The cheese snack was probably maybe a dollar and the bacon pack I remember being $2, because it was a very small pack and a cheap brand. perhaps, a couple of pennies for the mayonnaise and mustard. The bread I used probably only cost $0.30. I'm very sure the two burgers, that I made, and the great adventure of making them was worth every single penny. It most certainly took me less time to make my own hamburger than it did to drive to the fast food place and pay more for a much less quality product.
